What we eat has the ability to change the world and our health. Our food lifestyle is a way for us to make a difference one bite at a time. One of the greenest things you can do in your lifetime is become vegan with a focus in organic goods. Being vegan means you eliminate meat, dairy, and eggs from your diet.  When I first made the transition into veganism, I became more aware of the foods I put into my body. I even began to understand the meaning of food labels. As a society we forget the food is a form of fuel and many of us forget that what we eat effects the way out bodies function. On a daily basis I see many people reach for snacks of artificial energy drinks, chips, candy, and specialty drinks from the nearby Starbucks. These kinds of foods I’ve listed are not sustainable forms of energy and cause great distress to the body’s immune system.

Now being vegan doesn’t necessarily mean you are healthy unless you make clean choices, you can’t live off faux meats, artificial energy bars, frozen meals, and soy products. Being vegan means you being to honor the earth and reach for foods that connect you to it. Snacking on kale chips, fruits, veggies, beans, tempeh, hearty grains, and even dark chocolate. When you open your heart and belly up to the earthy foods you will see the body becomes more energized, boosted immune system, vibrant skin, and increased brain function. As the body grows healthier so does the environment. When your vegan you save 100 animals a year, reduce your carbon footprint by 50%, and support farms that have sustainable practices.

Even if being a full vegan doesn’t sound as possible for your lifestyle, you can still choose organic produce, sustainable/local meats, cleaner snacks, and adding Meatless Mondays into your week. Try visiting local farms with your family and friends to become more connected to the earth and appreciating where your food comes from. It all about making a lifestyle change where you’re greener, healthier, and smarter with how you eat and treat your body and earth. When you embrace nature and challenge yourself to participate in the greater good, you will manifest change.
